Donald Trump Georgia indictment trial date REVEALED as just before primary elections

Donald Trump has been proposed a trial date after he was indicted by prosecutors in Fulton County, Georgia earlier this week, accused of meddling with the results of the 2020 election.

The former president proposed March 4, 2024, as a date for a potential trial, which could see the president in court just one day before a number of primary elections known as ‘Super Tuesday.’ Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said she hopes the trial will begin on that date in a proposed scheduling order.

Around 14 primaries are set to be held across the country, from California and Texas to Massachusetts and Maine. Trump is currently his party’s dominant frontrunner, far ahead of his nearest rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Arraignments may also happen on the week of September 5, Ms Wilis proposed. There is a deadline of August 25 for all the defendants to turn themselves in at the Fulton County Jail to be booked.

The proposed order also suggests other deadlines for the case, including for discovery and motions. Willis’ filing says she selected the dates “(i)n light of Defendant Donald Trump’s other criminal and civil matters pending in the courts of our sister sovereigns,” saying this timetable wouldn’t conflict with those other courts already scheduled hearings and trial dates.

The 45th president was indicted along with 18 of his allies in an indictment that includes 41 different charges for the defendants. A total of 13 charges alone are against Trump, claiming he and his co-defendants were part of a “criminal organization” engaged in an “enterprise” that operated in Georgia and other states. He denies all of the charges against him.

Trump, 77, said he will present the report in his New Jersey home in Bedminster on Monday next week. “A Large, Complex, Detailed but Irrefutable REPORT on the Presidential Election Fraud which took place in Georgia is almost complete & will be presented by me at a major News Conference at 11:00 A.M. on Monday of next week,” he claimed in his outburst on his social media platform, Truth Social.

There is no evidence at all the 2020 presidential election was stolen.

The charges against Trump are: conspiracy to impersonate a public officer; conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree; false statements and writings and filing false documents and solicitation of violation of oath by public officer. Another charge, violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), is the most serious and carries a maximum of 20 years behind bars.

The 97-page indictment reads: “Trump and the other defendants charged in this indictment refused to accept that Trump lost, and they knowingly and wilfully joined conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome of the election in favor of Trump.

“The indictment alleges that rather than abide by Georgia’s legal process for election challenges, the defendants engaged in a criminal racketeering enterprise to overturn Georgia’s presidential election result,” Ms Willis, whose office brought the case, said at a late-night news conference.

Trump’s Campaign released a furious statement, targeting Ms Willis and comparing her to “Crooked Joe Biden,” in the wake of the indictment. She was accused of trying to slow down the investigation in an attempt to try and interfere with the 2024 presidential election.

“President Trump will never give up and will never stop fighting for you, as we all work to Make America Great Again in 2024,” his supporters were told in a statement.

The latest indictment means Trump is now facing 91 charges which carry a potential cumulative penalty of up to 700 years behind bars. The Fulton County indictment was the fourth criminal charge against him this year.

Earlier this month, Trump pleaded not guilty to: conspiracy to defraud the United States; conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding; obstruction of an official proceeding and conspiracy against rights in Washington DC.

In New York, Trump faces a number of legal battles including a charge alleging he is responsible for falsifying business records in regards to a hush money payment paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

There are 34 charges here and that trial is due to begin on March 25. Trump has appealed to have this case heard in a federal court.

There are also 37 counts of illegally retaining classified documents and obstructing the US government’s efforts to get them back in Florida. Exactly 31 of these charges are alleged violations of the Espionage Act. Three more charges takes the total number to 40 in Florida. The Florida trial is due to begin on May 20, 2024.
